The Ontario SP16 SPAX Knife w/Sheath was manufactured as part of the Spec Plus Next Generation series designed for rescue, sporting, and military use. SPAX stands for Special Purpose Axe. This item was designed as a tool for pilots to extricate themselves from wreckage in case of emergency or crash type event. The SPAX is a hatchet, a cutting tool, or a pickaxe all rolled into one, whatever the situation determines. This robust axe/knife combination tool was not made not only for camping tasks but could be used for small construction jobs in a pinch. The specialized five-sided center notch is intended to shut off fire hydrant bolts and main natural gas valves in an emergency. Featuring a specialized round head design to ensure equal amounts of leverage while prying through the toughest of materials. Made from quality raw material and components, including 1095 Carbonized steel. Epoxy surfaced and powder coated black steel blade. Full tang blade edges are hardened to 52-54 HRC.
