Not meant as pistol belt suspenders; used for field pants & wool/cotton long johns - hooks on loops near front
Makes sense to me.
I do a good bit of DIY repairs around my house and use a tool belt but with tape measure, screwdriver, drill, and other tools the belt gets fairly heavy to wear as just a belt. So will these suspenders be a good choice to help hold up my tool belt but be rugged and comfortable?

I believe these would be a good choice for your application. I utilized them every day while I was on active duty and also now. I find them to be extremely comfortable and they do a great job augmenting my belt as I find myself attaching a tape measure and various other tools in my pockets throughout the day. I hope this helps you with your decision.
