Built for the U.S. Marine Corps by Babington Enterprises, the Tray Ration Heating System (TRHS) was designed to deliver reliable, high-volume meals in the field. Using Babington’s patented Airtronic burner, it achieves efficient, smokeless, and odorless combustion on multiple fuels, including diesel, JP-8, kerosene, or standard 120 VAC. Originally government-contracted at $15,800 per unit, the TRHS reflects the kind of smart investment built to perform anywhere, anytime. Measuring 53 inches long, 23 inches wide, and 25.5 inches high, with an empty weight of 260 pounds, this unit houses a 30-gallon stainless steel basin. While created to heat military tray-pack rations with only 10 gallons of water, its versatility makes it equally capable of cooking stews, pasta, rice, chili, or boiling large volumes of water for sanitation, coffee, and tea. The same capacity that once kept Marines fed can now serve up community seafood boils, game-day chili pots, or giant batches of pasta at camps and retreats. A single TRHS can sustain 250 people with two meals per day and has even been pushed to feed as many as 1,500 in extended operations. More than just a heating tank, this is a complete mobile kitchen. It includes folding stainless-steel tables, a heavy-duty tarp with a pole-supported tent, six beverage dispensers, three temperature-controlled Cambro pan carriers, utensils, and a full support kit. While originally designed for Marines in forward operating bases, today it’s just as useful for disaster response teams, church groups, hunting lodges, outdoor festivals, community kitchens, summer camps, or any situation where feeding a crowd quickly and efficiently matters.
