Description

The Swiss Army EN50-A Field Telephone brings back memories of a time before screen swiping or dropped calls—when communication meant hand-cranking for a true, secure connection. This Swiss field telephone, the most compact "mobile" of its time, doesn’t need an app or a signal. A dream for collectors and retro-tech enthusiasts, these field phones are getting rarer each year, so grab yours while you still can and experience communication the analog way. Developed by Albiswerk Zürich AG, a Swiss subsidiary of Siemens, the Feldtelefon 50A was inspired by the American EE-8 field phone used during WWII. Produced starting in 1950, it served the Swiss Army through the 1980s before becoming a relic of the digital age. Despite modern technology, field phones like this still find purpose, showing up even in modern conflict zones as a reliable, interference-free means of communication. The EN50-A is straightforward and self-sufficient, ideal for those who appreciate low-tech reliability. Encased in rugged, water-repellent green canvas, the field phone is designed to withstand the elements. It features a shoulder strap and belt loop for hands-free portability, making it ready to accompany you anywhere, whether in the field or as part of a display. Measuring approximately 9 inches high, 5.75 inches wide, and 3.5 inches deep when closed, and weighing about 5.4 Lbs., this unit offers a compact yet substantial piece of vintage tech that feels as solid as it looks. Under the buckled lid, you’ll find the main unit and a telephone handset, delivering everything you need for a vintage calling experience. These phones are an authentic piece of history, perfect for display or collection. While we can’t guarantee functionality due to age, these workhorse phones show typical signs of use, with scratches and wear that add to their rustic charm. Used in good condition. Genuine European Military Surplus. Made in Switzerland.

Expert Tips: The EN50-A operates without electronic tracking or interference—a true escape from the digital world. Store it in a dry place to preserve the canvas. This field telephone isn’t just a collectible; it’s a tangible piece of an era when communication was raw, reliable, and absolutely off-the-grid.

I have a really dumb question: I assume that one must purchase wires to use these phones? WWII vintage must mean that they cannot be wireless. If wireless what is the maximum distance allowable distance for use from phone to phone? Thanks. (Also: does Coleman's sell needed wiring to use these?)

These phones are strictly wired connection. You can use either a double strand wire, or a single strand with a ground connection and any electrical wire should work.

I bought a case of x4 phones. Nice condition/near mint. Do you have a manual or link to a pdf of the Swiss manual/

I do not. Commo wire is a challenge to find. Do you by chance have a good source?
