French Navy Wool Blanket

Navies have relied on wool for generations because few natural fibers are as well suited to cold and  damp environments. This genuine French Navy Wool Blanket carries that maritime practicality in unmistakably old-school form. Woven from pure wool in a rich blue, this substantial blanket has the dense, slightly coarse hand you expect from authentic military bedding, not a lightweight decorative throw, but a piece designed around warmth, durability, and repeated service. The original sewn label identifies the blanket as “Pure Laine” and approximately 63" x 94.5", although individual blankets may vary slightly in measurement. At roughly 5 lbs., it has enough weight to drape securely over a bed, cot, sofa, or sleeping setup while still folding down neatly for storage. Original hand-applied military inventory markings and stenciled letters or numbers add an especially appealing layer of character; markings will vary from blanket to blanket, making each example visually distinct. These blankets show honest service wear consistent with military use, including possible fading, minor surface wear, small pulls, or other age-related imperfections, but remain in nice, usable condition. Used, nice vintage condition. Genuine European Military Surplus.

Expert Tips: Wool performs best when it is cleaned less often than ordinary cotton bedding; airing the blanket thoroughly between uses can help freshen it without unnecessary washing. For deeper cleaning, use a wool-safe detergent with gentle agitation and avoid high heat, which can cause shrinkage or felting; laying wool flat to dry is preferable to tumble drying. For long-term storage, make sure the blanket is completely clean and dry, then keep it in a breathable container with cedar blocks or another wool-safe moth deterrent. The original stenciling is part of the appeal, so avoid aggressive spot scrubbing around marked areas if preserving its military character matters to you.
