The Lyster bag has been in continuous use for our ground armed forces for decades. Though can be commonly called the Lyster Bag (or Lister Bag) the correct contemporary nomenclature is "Bag, Water, Sterilizing" The Lyster Bag was a component of Field Feeding Equipment kit. The 36-gallon capacity bag is approximately 36 inches tall by 22 inches in diameter. The bag included a rope for hanging, a lid/cover, and had six dense plastic water faucets around the base. In use, it was placed from an improvised tripod of tent. You can sterilize water with ease by adding chlorine tablets into the contaminated water. After testing the water for potability, rendering the water available for filling canteens, cooking, or any purpose. These robust and reliable bags are constructed of a canvas fabric that weeps, providing some degree of evaporative cooling at the bag surface.
