Description

Few pieces of field gear reduce outdoor cooking to such elegant simplicity: two folded sheets of steel, a few fuel tablets, and a hot meal where there was nothing but cold air minutes before. This German Army Esbit Stove is the classic Bundeswehr pocket cooker, stamped Esbit, BUND, Made in W.-Germany. Made from folded, galvanized sheet steel, it opens into a compact pot stand and wind-shielded burner tray, then folds flat for easy packing in a rucksack, vehicle kit, range bag, emergency box, or display collection. Esbit fuel has German roots dating back to 1936, with the name derived from inventor Erich Schumm and “Brennstoff in Tablettenform,” meaning fuel in tablet form; the design became prized because it required no pump, hose, pressurized canister, or liquid fuel to spill. This example shows honest surplus character throughout, including scratches, oxidation, discoloration, soot marks, small rust spots, and age-darkened areas inside the burn chamber, all consistent with a used field stove rather than a polished reproduction. The embossed pictogram instructions remain visible on the exterior, giving it that practical, Cold War military charm collectors appreciate. Use it for camping, reenactment displays, emergency preparedness, lightweight hiking, or as a rugged desk or shelf piece that tells its story without needing much explanation. Used condition. Genuine German Military Surplus, not a cheap copy. Made in Germany.

Expert Tips: Use only in a well-ventilated outdoor area on a stable, nonflammable surface, since solid fuel tablets are intended for open-air cooking. Wipe the stove dry after use and apply a very light coat of oil to exposed rusty spots if you want to slow further oxidation. A small square of foil under the fuel tablet can reduce residue buildup, while a compact windscreen can dramatically improve boil times in breezy conditions. For collectors, leave the patina intact; the soot, scratches, and Bundeswehr markings are part of what gives this little stove its field authenticity
